Abortion leaves an impact on everyone involved—including the men and women who experience it first-hand. Sometimes the effects of an abortion are felt immediately, while other times it may take years for them to surface. What are potential after-effects of an abortion and how does Caring Network help restore hope after abortion?
Caring Network’s Restore After Abortion Program gets to the heart of post-abortion recovery. Many women and men face aftereffects following abortion, including feelings of guilt, sadness, anxiety, and flashbacks. If you or someone you know has experienced a past abortion and would like to find out more about the Restore program, contact us right away!
Becoming Aware of Post Abortion Stress
Abortion is increasingly prevalent in our society, both inside and outside of our faith communities. As of 2014, approximately 1 in 4 women will have an abortion by age 45. Of those, 54% claimed some form of Christian background. With that statistic in mind, it is highly likely we will encounter women who have had a past abortion.
One of the ways abortion may manifest itself is through what is often referred to as “Post-Abortion Stress Syndrome (PASS).” Post-abortion stress is the common terminology for aftereffects of an abortion that may seem like post-traumatic stress disorder. Such symptoms may include feelings of guilt, anxiety, depression, flashbacks, and triggers. There is no way of knowing exactly how many women experience PASS after an abortion, as it is not classified as a psychological disorder and the term is not accepted by the American Psychiatric Association or American Psychological Association.
How Restore Helps Women Heal and Hope After Abortion
Although some in our society refuse to acknowledge the existence of Post-Abortion Stress, at Caring Network, we have experienced its effects first-hand. Many of our clients who decide to terminate their pregnancies report experiencing feelings of loss, remorse, guilt, or relational difficulties with their partners following their abortion. The impact of abortion is easily seen in their lives, as they seek to work through the feelings and challenges that have followed.
That is exactly why the Restore Program exists. Restore not only acknowledges these feelings as real, but also gives women and men a safe place to process through them within the context of a faith-based environment, giving them hope after abortion.
Leaving a Lasting Impact with Restore
The Restore Program connects trained volunteers who have often experienced the pain of abortion personally with men and women who are interested in taking the next steps towards healing. By working through a faith-based study together within a group or one-on-one context, they begin to find forgiveness and restoration. Often clients report not only a decrease in post-abortion stress symptoms, but also having gained a deeper, more intimate knowledge of God and the impact of His forgiveness in their lives, the ultimate source of hope after abortion.
For over 20 years, Restore After Abortion has been providing services for anyone who has experienced the pain of a past abortion. All services are free and completely confidential. Restore brings healing and hope for those who are suffering with grief, guilt, sadness, anger, or anxiety over their past abortions.
