Ministry Spotlight: Overcoming Fear

“Peace, bring it all to peace, this storm surrounding me – let it break, in Your name.” These are the opening lyrics to the song “Tremble” by Mosaic Music.  Often when the struggles we face or the issues in the world around us become overwhelming, it can be difficult to know how to appropriately cope with it all.  The waves of fear are crashing over us and they can often feel like they will completely drag us under.  How do we overcome fear in challenging times?

Caring Network offers compassionate support to women facing the overwhelming fear that comes with an unplanned pregnancy.  Often feeling overcome with stress, anxiety or difficult life circumstances, the women we serve are met with the peace, hope and love of Christ.  By providing free services and nonjudgmental care, we are able to speak truth and come alongside them in trying times.  If you’d like to learn more about our ministry, check out Our Work

Overcoming Fear in Challenging Times

2020 has been a year for the books.  A world-wide pandemic and shelter-in-place orders have brought challenges to many people’s health, finances, relationships and personal lives.  In addition, many are working through grief, anger, and frustration at the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd, followed by the subsequent protests and riots. To say this year hasn’t been peaceful is an understatement.

Along with external issues that have occurred in our world at large, there are also the usual life circumstances many are grappling with – conflict in relationships, adverse health diagnoses, financial struggles, death of loved ones, and other areas of loss.  This can often compound the feeling that our lives are truly tumultuous, further adding to our feelings of fear and anxiety.  Where is this elusive “peace” to be found?

Overcoming the Fear of an Unplanned Pregnancy

Another life circumstance that can bring about fear is an unplanned pregnancy.  Questions of finances, resources, support, timing, and even just how to cope with it all can come as a result.  Often, women can kick into “fight or flight” mode and feel the need to make a pregnancy decision right away.  Our role at Caring Network is to create space – so that peace can enter in.

Have you ever had to make a decision when you’re at the highest levels of stress?  Your brain feels fuzzy.  You just want to stop feeling uncomfortable or overwhelmed.  You are on edge.  Are those always the best, well-thought out plans?  Typically not.  So, it’s our job at Caring Network to provide women a safe place to decompress.  Our centers are designed to create a sense of calm as soon as they walk in the door.  They are met with compassionate smiles and ushered into a relaxing environment where they can gather more information about their pregnancy and the options available to them – and most importantly find the space to begin to appropriately process through their decision.

As believers, we recognize true peace comes from God. It is not a temporary, fleeting feeling.  But rather, it stays with us through the storm.  Though the waves are crashing around us, we know there’s an Anchor that holds us steady.  We offer the same peace to the women we serve, by offering the opportunity to know the Peace-giver.  “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”  John 14:27

At Caring Network, we serve as the hands of feet of Christ, extending His peace to those we serve.  Although the circumstances around us may be trying, we trust in the One who is able to overcome fear.  We can’t do this work without the prayers and support of those who partner with us.  Learn more about how to get involved today and help us continue to spread God’s peace & mercy to women facing unplanned pregnancy.
