In the midst of trying times, we often catch a glimpse of people coming together to serve others. Whether it’s rallying around a local business, dropping off food for medical staff or first responders, or simply going out of the way to pick up groceries for a neighbor, we’ve all witnessed or participated in some positive ways to give back during this season.
Although, the Coronavirus has brought along many struggles or hardships, we have seen some beautiful responses as result of people joining together in service. So, how can we keep this positive momentum going forward? What are some ways that you can help others in need around your community during this particular time?
Caring Network has served women facing unplanned pregnancy in the Chicagoland area since 1981. Through many changing seasons over the years, we have continued to provide free services, emotional support, and practical help to women and their unborn children. Join together in the work we are doing through prayer, volunteering, or partnering in our mission. Contact us today for more details about how you can help during our response to COVID-19.
Focusing on Positive Outcomes
As Christians, we know that there will be difficult times in life, but the story doesn’t end there. It’s often through trying times that we catch glimpses of hope and light. We know that no matter how tough things may get, God is with us and is working in and through the situation, whether or not we see it. We need only to trust in Him, and be obedient to His will.
Christ set the ultimate example for us. He knew that a difficult and deadly journey lay before Him, yet He kept His eyes on the Father, submitting to His will. In the midst of trying times and an overwhelmingly difficult future, He took on the form of a servant. (Philippians 2:7) As Matthew 20:28 says, “Even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” He calls us to extend ourselves, our resources, and our time to our neighbors and “the least of these.” (Matthew 25:35-40)
We see Christ’s message exemplified during this season as the Church comes together to serve those who are struggling. From individual acts of compassion to larger scale relief efforts, people are fulfilling God’s calling to be the hands and feet of Christ. A hurting world is able to see God glorified through the serving acts of His children.
Serving Others in Need Around Your Community
Identify People in Need
In order to effectively serve, you must first identify those who are in need of help. It could be an elderly neighbor who doesn’t have family in the area or a congregant in your church who is a doctor or nurse. Perhaps another neighborhood that you are less familiar with in your community has been affected more harshly and this is your opportunity to get to know them and pitch in. If you don’t know where to start, reach out to a pastor/priest, elder, deacon, or small group leader at your church.
Utilize the Gifts You Have to Serve
We each have different gifts and resources available to us. Serve and give from what you have. Time, money, and material resources are all just as equally important. Whether it’s checking in on a lonely relative or donating to research for a vaccine, no act of service is too little. Think about what is available to you and how you can utilize it for the greater good.
As Caring Network serves on the front lines by providing limited medical services and consultations to women facing unplanned pregnancy, we seek your support during this season. Get involved by donating towards medical supplies, gathering material items, praying for our staff, or partnering with us financially. We could not do this important work without the caring acts of service from the body of believers in our community! Thank you for serving our staff and our clients in this season!
