Students for Life Fights for Equal Representation

The Thomas More Society is defending the rights of pro-life students at an Iowa high school, where a Students for Life club was denied by school administration. A senior at Hampton-Dumont High School has attempted to start a Students for Life club for several years, but has been repeatedly denied. The Thomas More Society sent a letter to the school’s principal, charging that the discrimination is unconstitutional. “The pro-life students are simply asking for equal treatment,” said Jocelyn Floyd, Associate Counsel of Thomas More Society.“Here the school is trying to claim that its lesser treatment is justified because this club doesn’t tie in with the school’s curriculum—but neither do most of the school’s other clubs.” According to the letter, the school’s refusal to officially recognize the Students for Life club violates both the Federal Equal Access Act and the First Amendment to the Constitution.
