The Calling to Save Lives

The story of Joseph in the bible is truly an epic. Doted on by his father, but despised by his brothers, this slave turned prince helps save Egypt from a terrible famine. When his brothers come seeking food and learn his true identity, they are beside themselves.

In what must have been a divinely inspired response, Joseph says that all of the struggles he faced were fulfilling a greater purpose – “because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.” (Genesis 45:5) God used Joseph’s story (and his brothers’) to save the lives of many and give Him glory. Just like Joseph, the purpose of our Christian calling is ultimately to be a vessel to reflect Christ and save lives.

Caring Network is a Christian pro-life organization that has been saving and impacting lives for 40 years. Our pregnancy center ministry meets women in the midst of their crisis to share hope for the future. Our post-abortion support program comes alongside men and women who are experiencing the pain of a past abortion and provides a pathway to healing in Christ. Through it all, we become the hands and feet of Jesus, sharing a message of life. To learn more about our ministry, reach out today.

How Can Christians “Save Lives?”

Joseph’s calling was to “save lives.” He knew that God’s purposes would be fulfilled in him, despite the many twists and turns he faced along the way. Although it’s easy to read a bible story and feel inspired, it can be difficult to know how it applies to us today. What does “saving lives” look like in a modern-day context?

SAVING LIVES THROUGH GOSPEL-SHARING

A primary calling in the life of a Christian is to share the good news of our faith. In the Great Commission, Jesus leaves us with the command to “go and make disciples of all nations.” (Matthew 28:19) We are described as “ambassadors of Christ”-taking his message with us and living as a citizen of His kingdom. “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.” (2 Corinthians 5:20) We are used by God to “spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.” (2 Corinthians 2:14)

SAVING LIVES BY SERVING OTHERS

Joseph intervened on behalf of the citizens of a country that was not his own. He exemplified the grace of God in serving others, regardless of their background, nationality, or life choices. We are called to do the same – to mirror the example of Christ who sacrificed Himself on behalf of others. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”  (Mark 10:45) God has given each of us unique gifts, skills, and abilities. He calls us to use those as a way to save lives through service. “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10)

SAVING LIVES BY STANDING FOR THE VULNERABLE

One way that we serve others is by advocating for those who are vulnerable. The early church dedicated itself to assisting widows and orphans – those who had no one to care for them. We are called to follow their example. Who is the most vulnerable in our society today? At Caring Network, we know that one of the most vulnerable populations is the unborn. Unable to speak for themselves, we are compelled to take a stand on their behalf, loving their mothers and fathers with the love of Christ. Through coming alongside them and providing resources & support, we help remove barriers, enabling the saving of lives.

Caring Network lives out the calling to save lives through sharing the good news of our faith, serving others in the midst of struggles, and compassionately standing for the vulnerable. With our pregnancy center ministry and post-abortion support, men and women receive free services and support during a great time of need. Learn more about partnering with us today in reaching more and saving more.
