Getting Connected to Hands On Opportunities in a Digital Age
In today’s digital age, we are more and more aware of social causes and the volunteer opportunities that go along with them. Perhaps you are considering volunteering somewhere, but don’t know where to start. How do you narrow down your options when determining where to focus your time? Here are some helpful hints to consider.
Caring Network Illinois is a non-profit organization that has been serving women facing an unplanned pregnancy in Chicagoland since 1981. We would love for you or your church to consider volunteering your time with us. From volunteer reception to general office help to maintenance, there is bound to be a role that is right for you. Check out our volunteer opportunities for more information. Volunteers are a vital part of our ministry!
Here are some things to consider when determining where to invest your time as a volunteer:
What are your skills and talents?
Many non-profit organizations benefit from the specialties of their volunteers. Perhaps you have a certain skill set or work experience that could bless others. You never know whether your talent might be the perfect fit for a particular need. Caring Network operates centers around DuPage County; and we have volunteer opportunities including reception, light office cleaning, maintenance, transportation, help with mailings, and more.
What is your passion?
Sometimes all a non-profit organization needs is a workforce. Perhaps projects need to be completed that need a lot of hands on deck. Are there particular causes that you are drawn to? Does a certain type of organization resonate with you? Even if it’s something small, organizations love having people on board who believe in the work they are doing. Caring Network is passionate about serving women who experience unplanned pregnancy, so that they are empowered and supported at a critical time. If you share our passion, the Walk for Caring Network in June might be an opportunity for you to get connected.
What is your availability?
Organizations may have certain volunteer positions on a regular schedule, as well as other opportunities scattered throughout the year. Check with the organization to see what opportunities may fit into your schedule. Keep in mind: don’t over-commit. Pick a plan that fits your lifestyle, thinking through the realities of your current and potential future obligations. Organizations would prefer having someone who is reliable and committed, even if his or her availability is limited. Although Caring Network Illinois has an ongoing need for regular, scheduled volunteers, we also have volunteer opportunities that come up all year long.
Non-profit organizations thrive as a result of their volunteers. People like you are needed every day to fulfill the mission and vision of the charities you care about. Consider volunteering today!
After considering your own interests and availability, do any of the volunteer opportunities through Caring Network Illinois seem like a good fit for you? We are always looking for great hearts to come alongside the work we are doing here. Contact us for more information.
