Valentine’s Day – A Time to Love Those Around You

It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of Valentine’s Day. With sweet notes, chocolate hearts, and pink and red scattered everywhere, it’s a day to show joy and care to the ones you love. Valentine’s is meant to be a fun holiday, reminding us to love each other well and to express it. How do we take the extra effort put into this day and carry it with us throughout the year?

Caring Network is a Chicagoland non-profit that seeks to bring God’s love and compassion to women facing unplanned pregnancies. Love is something we demonstrate throughout the year by providing compassionate support and free early pregnancy services to women in need. We can’t fulfill this vital mission without the support of others. To learn more about how you can come alongside the work we are doing, reach out to us today!

What does the Bible say about love?

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Love, in Scripture, is an action, not only a feeling. Love is the things we do and how we act towards others. Yes, you can feel the feeling of love, but true love is acting on that feeling. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 is known as the “love passage,” because it reminds us of what love is and what love isn’t. It gives us guidelines on how to love one another, in any type of relationship, not just in marriage. We can use these guidelines to love everyone around us!

How to Love Others

Based on this Biblical definition of love, how can we put this into practice and love those around us?

Well, we do what is commanded of us. We treat others with patience and kindness. We aren’t jealous and do not brag. We serve others selflessly. When we do these things, we love the way Christ does. A call to love is a call to serve.

How to Love Women with Unexpected Pregnancies

One of the best ways to love is to serve. Here is a list of ways you can serve the women around you this season!

  • Give them encouraging cards with heartfelt words
  • Give them a small gift or care package to encourage them
  • Invite them over to your home
  • Offer to go with them to shop for baby supplies
  • Get them connected with programs to help them through this time

Caring Network’s goal is to provide women with unexpected pregnancies with resources enabling them to choose life. Our mission is to save two lives, the mother and the child. We would love for you to get involved! There are opportunities to volunteer or apply for one of our open positions. If you want to join the mission financially, click here to donate!
